Summer Fever and Ways to Combat It

Many have this wrong perception that catching a cold and having fever are winter problems only. The fact is in time of any major season change, people with weaker immune systems catch rhinovirus, which is the common cause for cold and viral fever. In India, summer in most places means excess humidity, scorching heat causing terrible sweating, headaches, allergies, and fever. In summer the recurrence of viral fever is more than that of other seasons because the sweat and heat work together as a catalyst for the weak immune systems to catch the common flu.

What are the main causes?

Soaked with sweat, most of us rush to the air conditioner as soon as we reach our home, office, or any other place right after coming back from the outside. It is hard for the sweat-soaked body to comfortably consume the instant cold coming out of the ac machine. As a result, eventually, we start feeling feverish. Another significant cause is drinking soft drinks and consuming inappropriate diets. In the humid weather of Indian summer, the human body needs to consume vegetables, fruits that contain watery substances.  Excessive oil, spices, or fatty foods are detrimental to health in summer. They go against the weather outside and form gas and raise the body temperature. Children, young adults, and elderly people mainly fall prey to summer fever.

If you are one of them too, then the following tips might help you, besides contacting general physicians near you

  • Use proper shields -  Try to carry umbrellas, sunglasses and wear cotton clothes when you are going out. Alongside, wear dermatologically tested sunscreen at least fifteen minutes prior to you are going out. Carrying an umbrella will help your head avoid direct contact with the heat. A sunscreen will guard your skin and reduce face sweating. On the other hand, wearing cotton clothes will help to soak and evaporate the sweat faster than other fabrics and cloth materials.
  • Proper diet - Avoid having foods, which contain too much oil, fat, sugar, and spices. They increase the blood sugar and temperature level of the body. As mentioned above, an inappropriate diet hits up the body and it goes against the weather. Thus, eating light and less spicy foods will be a wise choice. Choose to have season special fruits and vegetables as much as you can.
  • Daily bath and avoiding air conditioner right after coming back from outside - Do not avoid having a complete bath on a daily basis. A daily bath is an exercise and a protective measure. On the other hand, try not to consume ac just after coming back. Let your sweat evaporate naturally and then switch on the machine.

  • Contact a doctor - If your body temperature is abnormally high and besides sneezing and coughing you are facing too many complications, then contacting a doctor is your only wise option. Today, some of the best general physicians in Kolkata are available online for advice. If the situation is out of control, appoint as soon as you can.
Stay safe and sound and enjoy summer.
